About 70 km, which takes roughly 3 hours by road through Kurseong and the tea estates. It is a short distance by Himalayan standards but a steep, winding climb, so allow the full three hours rather than planning around the kilometres.

Indian nationals do not need a permit to enter Sikkim, but Tsomgo Lake, Nathu La and all of North Sikkim are protected areas and need one. Tsomgo Lake is 3,753 m and Yumthang 3,564 m — high enough to feel. Take the first hour slowly, drink more water than you think you need, and tell your driver if you feel unwell. The rest of the routes sit between 1,250 m and 2,700 m.
